Analiza medijskog sadržaja ima za cilj kvalitativnu i kvantitativnu analizu sadržaja (štampa, radio, TV, literatura) ili delova neverbalne komunikacije ili fotografija. Ova tehnika uključuje pronalaženje odgovarajućih jedinica analize, zatim njihovog kategorisanja, sistematizacije i na kraju dekodiranje prema određenim pravilima a sve sa ciljem da se dođe do zaključaka: ko šalje poruku , šta ona sadrži , kome je upućena i kakav je njen efekat. Na temelju analize sadržaja može se zaključiti o skrivenim namerama, ciljevima ili ideologiji pošiljaoca poruke.

Content analysis is a method for the objective, systematic and quantitative analysis of the apparent content of communications (press, radio shows, books, movies) or the sequence of nonverbal behavior or image attachments). This technique involves finding the appropriate unit of analysis, then the system category of analysis, and finally construct ordered set of encoding rules, or clearly defined guidelines for the classification of each unit of analysis in one category: who sends a message, what it contains, to whom it is addressed and with what effect. Analysis of the manifest content of communications can uncover latent messages hidden in these texts. Based on content analysis can be concluded about the hidden intentions, objectives or ideology message sender.
